Do you know the stories of Gideon?
He has a few, and the one I like is about how he chose his closest people.
It was his responsibility to get his people out of slavery. God tasked him with specific directions, and though reluctant, Gideon obeyed.
His first assignment, purge his army of fearful men. He asked them if they have an ounce of fear to go home before things escalated.
Of the 32K soldiers, only 10K remained.
For God that was too many still, the point was to help Gideon win a victory so everyone would know that only through faith in God could they win. If Gideon had 10K soldiers some may doubt and credit the glory to “strength in numbers”. So he thinned the heard some more.
His next assignment, purge his army of men who did not stay alert.
First he brought the 10K to a river and watched them drink. Most men knelt down to drink the water head first.
Meanwhile a few cupped their hands and drank so they could keep a watchful eye on their environment. These 300 became Gideon’s final army.
The former thousands sent home.
There’s more to this story, and the life of Gideon. Definitely worth a read.
I bring this story up because it’s my favorite and it shines on a light on what’s important in your social network. That everyone is aligned in values, fearless, and alert.
Life is hard, it’s even harder with friends who are fearful, disagree with your moral code, and are easily distracted.
You can’t make money with someone like that.
You can’t trust your kids with someone like that.
You can’t have your girlfriend/wife around people like that.
Truth is you probably have those friends who lie to you face, talk about you poorly behind your back, date your Xs, humiliate you in public, cockblock, steal money, and all in all, act as enemies holding you back from God’s Great intention for you.
Are you going to keep your enemies close because you’re desperate not to be lonely?
Or are you going to drop them from the team and replace them with a lean network of relentless, loyal soldiers?
Here’s an option in the meantime. Connect with brothers online who thik like you do and move like you want to move. Make plans to meet in person this year and change your the quality of your network within a few months.
