I treat my work like Biggie and Jay Z told me: “Treat your first like your last. And your last like your first.” To me every day is brand new, like my first day on the job even though I’m at year 19. That mindset is why I still get into funny situations like this one time… Guy invites me out for lunch to talk business. Goes well. Naturally I go to pay, but he insists. Why? Because he was investing in time with me and wanted to show respect. Meanwhile, I was getting insights from him about his work and his moves so I could improve my own performance. I wanted to pay respect and take care of his lunch. I let him pay. Got a nice “free” lunch. And many valuable lessons. Treat what you do today with an open mind like it’s the first time you’ll do it so savor all the details. Treat what you do today like it’s the last time you do it, so be bold and leave a lasting mark. The brothers from Brooklyn say it well. This is my best version of adding to their guidance. A way to make sure you win at everything you do even when life throws you a curveball. If you’ve read Jay-Z’s take on life and success you know he applies the methods inside this book, which is why there’s basically nothing he can’t do.
