So… apparently, an unedited message was sent out today from me.
Subject line– “Reading is Fundamental”
I’m so embarrassed. Not only was it scheduled for later this month, it just wasn’t complete at all.
Things like this happen when you’re managing so much content and working with different types of software.
It’s actually not the first time it’s happened to me either.
I’ve been testing email marketing tools for myself and clients, just to have practical insight about what the options are and how they work.
It’s a nice way to offer my firsthand experience to different people at different levels
Currently, I’m working with MadMimi, which I personally don’t like on days like this, though I recommend for people who aren’t confident writers and just starting out with writing to a list.
It’s simple, direct, and intuitive.
If you know how to write a plain text document on your computer, then you can become an email expert with this tool within 30 days.
That being the case, I’m switching out to something more robust between now and spring. Excited to test that later.
That said…
Sorry for the lackluster, incomplete and uninspired message in your inbox today.
The first one was a Q&A about testing the experts you follow to find the best resources for the exact problems you have today.
I loved it, and proudly hit publish for today around 11 AM.
That second one was ROUGH, as you can see.
It’s what I call a shitty first draft (SFD). Putting words to paper to get them out of my head, in the form of an outline. Then when I return to it for a second look, I can flesh them out, add the sexy details that make it pop off the page, and correct the grammar and mechanics.
You saw The Wizard behind the curtain today, and I’m embarrassed.
Here’s what I’m gonna do about it.
You’ll still receive the true version of that message, which is still set for Thursday, January 14 at 11 AM.
However, since this mishap happened, and I can’t take it back. I want to use it as a lesson in creating content.
I had this conversation yesterday with my Great friend too.
He wants to dial into “the zone” and write screenplays, but his mind is so full of ideas that they’re having a hard time coming out as a single sentence on the page.
It’s not the best start.
Really frustrating when you know you’re talented and have something to say, but can’t seem to say.
Sure you can hire someone like me to do it for you…
… But we all have this problem.
Actually I don’t, so I’m going to share my process and how I no longer have a hard time writing about any topic at any time, assuming I know the material to begin with.
Starting tomorrow, I’m going to add more tips in your inbox.
I’m gonna break down the process I use to take an idea in my head to a final draft in 25 minutes or less.
Whether it’s a scene for a movie, a love letter for a partner, a new article for your blog or guest blog, or the first chapter of your new novel, this is the exact process I use to write well and move on with my day.
Yup.
You’ll get the same process I am using right now to start this email at 12:40 PM EST, and get it out to you by 1:05 PM. Check the time stamp to prove me right or wrong.
This impromptu project needs a title though…
I know I’ll call it… Story Academy. (until I come up with a better name.)
Every SA message will appear in your inbox as [Story Academy] (and then the lesson name).
Are you ready to write the best stories you didn’t know you had to tell?
Are you ready to jump from first draft to last draft in 60 minutes or less?
Are you ready to learn these **Max**_!_ skills and beat me at my own game?
Great.
Stay Tuned for that message tomorrow.
Be well,
Max!
P.S. Whenever I’m embarrassed I like to make amends, and this is my way of saying “WTF, I noticed that too, and it was GARBAGE. Sorry. Let me make it up to you.
Thanks for sticking around, since you didn’t balk, laugh at me or unsubscribe, I’m gonna make it worth your while.
P.P.S. Did I beat the shot clock? What time is it?
