The desperate moves of Alonzo Harris ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ

Rewatched TRAINING DAY. Great movie by Antoine Fuqua who knows how to translate chaos on the screen without it being distracting from the story and characters.

If you haven’t seen it, GO. This email won’t ruin the plot and ending for you.

Denzel Washington plays our antagonist, Alonzo Harris. Many view him differently.

I only see him in one accurate wayโ€” Desperate.

A man in a tough situation that demands urgency.

Unsurprisingly he does what desperate children do in desperate situations…

He makes it other people’s problem. Instead of handling his business on his own, he involves other people which puts their money and their lives at stake.

All so Alonzo can put together 1 million to pay off the Bratva (Russian mob) because he stupidly killed one of their top players.

It’s a wild ride from beginning to end. And the premise is that he does all his antics while training a new recruit for his squad who is a naรฏve dumb ass who is your main character surrogate into Alonzo’s world.

Many think Alonzo’s the man, even though he’s not.

He’s a guy who acts big until the pressure is on him. He’s a small fish in a large pond. When you see set against his betters, he looks like a clown because he doesn’t belong. He doesn’t speak the same language. He doesn’t know the whole Game only the small soldier role he’s been given.

I bring this up because you may be Alonzo. Someone who plays a small role and is made to feel big, even though you aren’t.

Behind your back people push and pull you where they want. Could be a boss, parents, the government, your ‘friends’, girl, etc.

You feel good because you get a cushy income and manage a team, but you’re playing a small stakes role in someone’s high-stakes game.

Alonzo knew this, but he couldn’t let his team know it. He had to appear like God to them. Otherwise they wouldn’t follow him.

If you can relate to Alonzo, or know men like him. Keep your distance. We’re aiming far too low if we think the desperate acts of a child are something commendable.

That’s why I wrote TAKE CHARGE to give any man a leg up in defining his destiny. It won’t take months or years to do. It starts the moment you apply what’s inside. In a viscous world you cannot afford to be a small fish. If one thing goes wrong you need the ability to handle it with confidence not desperation.
