Oscar so white he blends in with the snow

Is Hollywood racist?

If you know your history and how the industry works and why certain choices are made, then the answer is a no-brainer:

YES!

A question so simple to answer yet so many seem to want to argue the point.
All the while, the situation persists without a resolution.

So what do you do?

Do you join the mundane fun? Follow suit with your friends and family. Lose yourself until you don’t even know what you’re saying or why?

Sure you could…

… or… you could dare to commit to action so few people consider— “Do good in spite of it”.

With the #OscarsSoWhite boycott the concern isn’t how racist Hollywood is or isn’t.

NOPE!

Champions of social justice, don’t want to overhaul Hollywood.

We just want media to mirror our everyday lives. The same lives we all share.

Because we know that for every mainstream whitewashed project there is a Black, Asian, Indian, women, LGBT story that is ignored.

{Your name}, do you know what it’s like to be dismissed for so long… and then to see someone who looks like you, sounds like you, and feels the things you do, in a story you can relate too.

It’s a valuable moment that we all need to feel human and a part of our society.

Behavioral Psychologist, Abraham Maslow, based his world-renowned work around this essential need to becoming whole.

Cinema is just one place we can fill it.

So… what does that mean for you {Your name}?

And what the hell does Hollywood Whitewashing have to do with email?
Everything.

Your story is like a Hollywood script ignored.

Same ignored scripts and stories Oscar protestors want to hear and see.

It’s like when you had those life-changing firsts of reading your favorite book, spending days with a person you truly loved, making your favorite dish, or mastering that one lesson which helped you overcome your fears around a topic.

People need to hear your voice and story because they can relate to you in ways that they can’t with mainstream options.

Like that wonderful experience you had, your audience wants to feel that way with your work.

But first you need to bust into the crowd and tell your unique story.

I can help.

This week, I have time on my schedule to help to help you craft your best stories so that your audience knows how Great you are, and how you’re on their side.

Only a few spots left.

First come.

First serve.

Be well,
Max!

P.S. John Oliver’s “HOW IS THIS STILL A THING” inspired this message.

Saturday I showed you how you can use it, and any controversial topic, to write a powerful email for your audience.

Stay tuned for the next Story Academy Saturday media clip.
