My favorite game on first dates: « What does Papi do? » Answers are amusing. All of them not wrong, but I never correct them. Just give a nod or a smirk, and blatant pander instead. “Absolutely I’m a lawyer, but I prefer legal stylist.”. Girls are indirect talkers, so she gets it, laughs, and we go on an adventure from there. I never correct her with the boring truth that we both know she won’t care about anyway. My favorite is how fat it goes sometimes. My BB didn’t know my name for nearly a year. Until I tasked her to edit my book. Even then she was: « Who is ‘X’? » She thought I gave her the wrong book to edit before she ever presumed my Dad would name me anything but Papi Knox. Absurdity is my plaything, and even though it’s absurd for her to believe my name is Papi it’s more plausible than you think. It’s not because I told her my name is ‘Papi Knox’. I never did. It’s not because I read her the stories of my life and referred to myself as Knox. No. But damn that would be a badass book. Not because I sat her down and convinced and yelled at her either. It’s because I’m the fucking MAN and she KNOWS The Man makes moves under names that match his energy. This is only possible when your actions and energy tell your story for you. Online and offline, and in any setting, you will present as larger than life.
