Beyoncé ain’t all that

Beyoncé has an incredible following.

Probably the widest cross-section of fans in terms of nationality, ethnicity, gender and socioeconomics too.

Her work resonates with so many, even me.

I can’t relate to the deeper messages in most of her music since I’m not a Black women.

However, as a marketer, and admirer of Great creators, I ignore how much we can learn from her approach.

One day I’ll have to break it down.

That’s not now though.

Today I want to talk about the another Queen Bee.

Yes there’s another…

Margaret Bell.

Queen to actual bees.

Ever heard of her?

Not the musician. Not the athlete, but another Bell still… from England.

You probably don’t this email may be the most that’s ever been written about her.

She passed in 1994, and for 26 years prior, she tended bees. Taking such Great care of her honey-producing friends that they fell in love with her.

I know this because when she died, the bees noticed…

The week of her death and funeral, the bees swarmed her neighborhood.

More suprising is that Bell lived 7 miles away from the hive, and the bees never visited this place before.

They used their bee senses to track her, in an effort to make sure she was alive and well since they hadn’t seen her in a while.

For days they buzzed in the sky and amassed on the walls of her house.

I’m sure it was scary at first, but knowing how devoted Bell was to her hive, it makes sense.

Wild right?

Yeah.

It’s why I have to share this with you today.

We’ve got this happening online too. Except instead of bees, it’s your audience… and you’re the Queen Bee. (Or “King Bee.” Gosh don’t let the gender title bother you so much or you’ll miss the message.)

As creators and leaders we want this kind of relationship with our audience.

We want them to know we care about them. That we understand them and they know us either as a brand personality or as our actual selves.

I’m not saying they have to know everything about you, but if they met you in person at an event, how would you present yourself to them.

That’s the voice you want to lead with in your work, on your site, and in person.

They crave a true relationship of mutual trust, so much so, they will treat us like Margaret Bell, or a Beyoncé.

If you stopped creating for your business, would your audience notice?

If you changed your format without warning, would your audience reach out to you to ask why?

If not, now’s the time to make a change.

The most immediate thing you can do is open up your email software right now, type up a message to your readers today, and hit send.

It has to happen now because you’ll make an excuse to continually avoid it.

I can’t have that.

I want you to write a simple message. To make it easy, I wrote it for you…
