I love “straight-man, funny-man” classic comedy duos.
Remember Abbott & Costello’s “Who’s on First” sketch, where they bicker over the confusing and odd names of baseball players on a team?
Guys like “who”, “what”, “I don’t know”, “today”, and “tomorrow” make up the strangest baseball team.
I can’t help but watch it today and realize these cats are email marketing genius’ ahead of their time.
Dig this:
- Who is on first base
- What’s on second base
- I don’t know is on third base
- Today is the catcher
- Tomorrow is the pitcher
Do you see it?
First step to good emails, is knowing WHO you’re reaching out to. That’s one person you know deeply that you want to say hi to with a story that inspires, entertains, and calls them to action around your expertise.
Second step, teach them WHAT to do around the struggle you know they have (even if they don’t know they have it).
Third step, oh…I DON’T KNOW… help them solve it. But here’s the thing, you can’t give away the “how” for free. Offer your best, paid solutions with your products or consulting to ease their pain.
Fourth step? Send it TODAY. Right now.
Finally, you repeat the process TOMORROW. And the next day. And the next.
Lesson: never overlook the sage advice of comics.
