Why industry leaders take Batman more seriously than you

Did you see the movie BATMAN V. SUPERMAN? Title aside it’s not a court case and is in fact the two men going head to head.

A part in it that bothers me is when Batman and Superman finally meet. Batman in all his badassery looks up to Superman and grimly asks: “Do you even bleed?”

I don’t think Batman would actually say that, but guess what you should.

See so many people are vying for top of mind status with prospective clients and customers.

They don’t get far because they stink of desperation. They know not what they do.

Like so many (maybe you too), they put clients and customers on a pedestal.

So much so they sell themselves short with bad pitches, give away their power by offering free work, and harass signed clients with frequent messages because they think it’ll keep them top of mind.

No. No. And. No.

People who follow and buy from you already believe in you. They’re also human like you. They breath the same air, bleed blood when they’re cut, and spend time on the toilet just like you.

Why put them on pedestal where they can look down on you?

You’ve earned your title, testimonials, and consistent results.

Focus on continuing that work, it’s not your job to “win people over”. Talk to the people already buying as equals so they respect you as such instead of looking down on you.

Works in business and email marketing nicely.

Also applies to reaching out to VIPs in your industry.

You’re placing your heroes on a pedestal and offering free work, giving away your best ideas, and treating them like gods so they see you as a fan and not a peer.
