Let’s get abortion out of the way

The quickest way to know how you feel about someone is to have the toughest conversations upfront. Saves a lot of time and heartache.

At this point in our relationship, let’s talk abortion.

But first a real story about two pregnant women in Saratoga county, where I live. Both with babies diagnosed with Spina Bifida (a spinal impairment).

One mother lives in an affluent part of town, has money and resources 90% of the global population doesn’t, and has to choose to keep the baby or not. She also had 8 miscarriages already. We’ll call her Amanda.

The other mother isn’t well off and would be forced to learn a whole lot to keep up with this new challenge facing her. Being poor with a potentially disabled child isn’t easy. We’ll call her Adeline.

Each has the legal option to abort in their second trimester.

What do they do?

Tough choice, what would you do?

What would you recommend?

In the end, Amanda with all the tools at her disposal to make the child’s life “easy”, aborts.

While Adeline, goes forward against ALL advice from family and peers, her bank account, and goes forward with the pregnancy.

Here’s the twist, Adeline lives in 1950s Saratoga county while Amanda is in the present day.

Back in the 50s, people didn’t know about Spina Bifida and assumed the worse: mental retardation, facial deformity, social rejection, death before 2 years-old, etc..

She was told: “Don’t get too attached to your baby.”

WTF, why are doctors so awful at caregiving?

Fugk them because today Adeline’s daughter turns 50, and you wouldn’t know she has SB unless she told you.

She and her mom, never let it limit their life and it really wasn’t an issue in their case.

And that’s the point.

See, I created TOP OF MIND to help people in spite of their limitations.

In my case, I have Sickle Cell Anemia which will one day take my life. I’m lucky to be alive at 28.

But I still have goals and aspirations. So I can get moving to reach them, or get comfortable dying slowly.

I choose the former. So does Adeline. So does her daughter.

Still, I side with Amanda because I have no problem with abortion, especially when it’s about your child avoiding physical adversity.

In her position, I’d do the same. (Hell as a baby I WAS in her position and I don’t want anyone experiencing what I live through on a bad day.)

That said when you have air in your lungs, and visions in your head, you have to do whatever it takes to realize them so you can help the people (including yourself) you want to champion.

I figure if in the past 12 years, I can help numerous leaders overcome feeling weak and count themselves, then I HAVE TO help more.

More people like you to rise above your invisble scripts and negative peers so you too can be featured in major press, helping your audience feel good about themselves and setting the standard for how you want your career to go.

Not the other way around.

It’s my obligation to help even more with TOP OF MIND.

In the past I worked in what I now affectionately call my hospital bed offices. Stuck in ERs, admitted into hospitals, all while campaigns I managed climbed the charts for millions of views on YouTube, thousands raised on Kickstarter, and people’s lives saved on the streets.

I’ve done it all and safe to say, I’m too legit to quit.

I’m not sure how long I’ll be around, but I’m here for a good time doing good, ideally with you by my side.

And TOM is helping me do it one issue at a time.
