The GREATEST decision I ever made which allowed me to beat Sickle Cell?
Proper meditation.
Of the 100+ things I did to shift my body on a molecular level, the best tool was taking time to myself.
It’s not a habit I learned in childhood.
Thankfully it’s socially acceptable to be charmingly tenacious 100% of the time. Even if it’s not sustainable.
At least that’s what I used think.
Then meditation popped in my life.
I’m not talking about modern meditation where you sit like Osho and chant affirmations into your mind’s third eye or whatever.
I mean proper meditation.
The practice of being full present.
As in to meditate on something.
You doing dishes is meditation, when you are immersed in the experience itself not your thoughts that focus your attention to the future or past.
You reading a book.
You fucking.
You sparring.
You resting or sleeping.
You writing an email or reading this one.
You thinking about a solution to a problem.
You doing anything.
It’s easy to multitask with thoughts and feelings invading the moment. So much so you get less done. And when it is done you are 10X more exhausted after.
That’s not how it has to be.
You could do one thing with 100% energy.
Be done with it and still give another 100% to the next task.
That is you can if you master proper meditation.
Now I didn’t realize I was doing this until someone pointed it out when I shared my work schedule.
in the summer of 2022 I mapped my life to my sleep chronotype and started observing the Sabbath.
I went from working 8 hours a day 7 days a week to 4 hours a week 6 days a week.
I was meditating when at work and I was fully meditating when I was resting on the Lord’s day.
It was not easy, but that approach to only doing specific tasks when my body and spirit are naturally attuned to it, gave my body the boost it need to reset.
To recharge on its own.
To always be ready.
Always be on sustainably without fear of burnout.
All without being a frenetic mess.
In essence it allowed me to be more myself.
Now I truly feel like a new man that I often find myself thinking differently about how to approach things.
Basically what so many people turn to the meditation trend for, but never get.
