Chess is such a beautiful game.
I’m surprised more people don’t play it.
Might be way every time you hear people talk about how “life is like chess” are often people misinformed about the correlation.
To date, I’ve only seen ONE good public example of the similarities to chess.
Check out the third episode of the greatest TV show of allβ THE WIRE.
In the beginning of the episode the low-level drug dealers learn how to play and why it’s the Greatest game to teach life skills.
Later in the episodes they hint at more chess lessons.
My favorite is when cop gets his undercover look together.
He shows up proud stinking and looking like a bum, only to get roasted as a fraud by a real drug addict who KNOWS the game.
What we think a drug addict looks like is different than what drug dealers or drug addicts expects to see.
The kind of details that could get an undercover cop singled out and even killed on the job.
The critique saved the man’s life BEFORE he knew it was in danger.
This is important to the game of chess too.
You need to see 4-10 moves ahead, and to see things from the perspective of the other pieces on the board.
If not you start from a position of danger without even seeing the threat that will take you out later in the game.
Bottomline is, You Don’t Know What You Don’t Know.
Here is how you learn to cover all your bases so you’re never caught off-guard.
Be well,
