🍓 The c-word deconstructed

🍓 It’s Media Monday where I share art that’s on my mind. Enjoy🍓

Your favorite stories have one detail in common. Thing is I notice a cultural shift in the West.

See back in the day, and rarely in the West now, all Great stories had a care.

Think of your top picks from real life or in fiction.
You care about the artist’s intent. You care about the characters. You care about the setting. You care about the plot. You care about the themes. You care about the motifs. You care about the imagery. Etc. Etc. Etc.

You care about one of those or a combination.

You care. You are invested in what it shows you about yourself, the world, or simply because it makes you feel youthful and vibrant to the point that you get up to do something special with your life.

Care is important.

However, modern stories lack care.

Instead ads push you to see the next story, but not because you care about any aspect of it.

You see the new movie because it has a character that looks like you. Nevermind what the character does. See yourself on the BIG SCREEN because a character is black or gay or a woman or a nerd or depressed or unemployed or lives in the suburbs.

Rather than give you a deeper reason and motivation to cheer (or hate, which is a form of care).  Do you see this too?

Or maybe I’m an asshole and there was something to care about in seeing a ripe banana duct-taped to a white wall?

Makes me wonder…

What does a civilization become when the stories it cherishes are only skin deep?

Probably what we have now, where people vote for one official or another simply because they are not the other choice.

Ya know because they “care so much”.

Nah, me and mine are good without that cuck existence.
