Ever notice that people who are against absolute statements do so for absolute reasons.
Always amuses me that people say “No.” to something in one breath, then champion it at the same time. Ya know, that whole “Never say ‘Never.’.” routine, even though they just said it twice.
Recently a brother told me he’s a “progressive” (whatever that means). Says he doesn’t like traditions and does not have them.
Naturally I reply: “So your tradition is not having traditions.”
He got a good laugh at it. A sign that he has a sense of humour and can challenge himself objectively. There’s hope for him.
Humans are creatures of habit. No way around it, Regardless of your identity politics, nature always overrides.
Best you can do is suppress it.
All that does is make it express itself in another way, at a later time, where you can’t control.
That’s the lesson today.
If you’re going to follow contradictory dogmas do it by choice, not because you never questioned it in the first place.
Thankfully Biggie Smalls taught me well: “Never get high off your own supply.”
Put another way, if you think “Only Sith’s believe in absolutes” then you are a Sith (whatever that means) because you just made an absolute statement.
